What to expect

What to bring

🐾  a dog on a leash that hasn’t eaten for a couple of hours, and has been to potty  (if your dog is experiencing GI upset, please reschedule )

🐾  towels to dry your dog after swimming  (a grooming dryer is also available)

🐾  a jacket for damp dogs in cooler weather (we worked to relax and loosen your dogs muscles and want to maintain warmth)

Introductory Swim

The introductory swim is our opportunity to help your dog have a safe and fun experience at the Doggie Dome Swim Spa.  Time is spent getting used to the surroundings and the stairs to the pool.  The session is individual to each dog, and although many dogs get into the water and swim that first time, some do not.  We try to set up each dog for a successful relationship going forward and help them make the connection that the water makes them feel better.

Please complete the paperwork and bring it with you to your dog’s first appointment.

Afterwards

🐾  swimming is stimulating to the GI tract, so be sure to give your dog time to potty after the swim

🐾  sometimes dogs experience zoomies after the swim caused by the endorphins released. Keep them safe on leash and don’t allow them to run around and possibly injure themselves.

🐾  give your dog time for a good nap after swimming to allow their body to incorporate the benefits

🐾  plenty of fresh water helps your dog’s body flush out toxins released

🐾 check for any damp areas and make sure your dog gets dry

🐾  communicate any soreness or overtiredness experienced by your dog
(You can share the good stuff too!)

🐾  monitor your dog for ease of movement and ability to perform daily tasks

🐾 expect your dog to be happy to return for their next swim appointment

Success

A successful session incorporates the goals you bring for your dog, as well as any physical limitations they’re trying to overcome. For every dog, we expect them to leave feeling better than when they arrived.

With each session we should make progress towards smooth entry into the pool after the life vest is applied. The goal is one entry and one exit. In the water throughout the session we’re working towards smooth movement with good extension of the limbs, and level flotation without strain or discomfort. The session includes plenty of rest time between swims, with some massage and treats and toys and lots of encouragement to keep it fun.

The amount of time in the water varies with the needs of the individual dog, maxing at approximately 30 minutes of water time. Each session helps to build strength and endurance, relieve swelling and inflammation, and give your dog confidence.
